About 20 to 30 people are feared dead after a cargo boat capsized on Lake Victoria.
According to the Uganda Police, the boat was sailing from Lwanabatya and Ntuuwa Landing Sites, Kalangala District, heading to Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.
Scores are feared dead, and Police confirmed that they have been able to retrieve only five bodies so far.
It is not yet clear the number of people that were on board; however, some eyewitnesses say the boat carried roughly 30 people.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Oweyesigyire, confirmed the incident but said they are waiting for details from Kalangala.
“This happened this morning. A team has been sent to Kalangala to rescue the victims. More details will be shared in the course of the day,” he said.
This is a developing story.
