All schools to close two weeks earlier – Ministry of Education

By Website Writer; The Ministry of Education and Sports has resolved to have schools from pre-primary to secondary close for Third term holidays two weeks earlier than the initially stipulated date.

The official term was slated to close on December 9, 2022, but it’s now shifted to November 25, 2022, as a measure to curb the spread of the Ebola Virus in school.

Last week, the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng suggested to the education ministry to have the schools’ third term shorted due to the currently escalating Ebola virus spread in the country.

It would be extremely nice if the Ministry of Education considered early exams so that we are only left with the candidates,” Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng on Ebola prevention measures in schools.

Fortunately, the health minister’s plea has been approved on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 by the Minister of Education and Sports in the cabinet, Hon. Janet Museveni.

Closing schools earlier will reduce areas of concentration where children are in daily close contact with fellow children, teachers and other staff who could potentially spread the virus,” Hon. Janet Museveni said in a statement.

As of Monday, the country had recorded a total of 135 confirmed cases and 53 deaths, according to the health ministry.

Among children, 23 cases have been confirmed, of which eight have died, said Museveni, who is the president’s wife.

The virus circulating in Uganda is the Sudan strain of Ebola, for which there is no proven vaccine, unlike the more common Zaire strain that spread during recent outbreaks in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
