Riots has erupted in Mityana town on Sunday morning as residents demonstrate the deteriorating condition of Mityana municipality member of parliament Francis Zaake Mutebi who currently admitted at Rubaga hospital after being tortured by Special Force Command soldiers.
Business in the town has been paralyzed since 8:00am as youth took to the street to protest the inhuman treatment of the member of parliament. Traffic along Mubende- Mityana – Kampala highway has been cut off.
Residents first converge at MP office in Mityana after rumors spread that the MP has died later blocked the road using logs and started burning vehicle tyres while chanting people power slogan.
Anti riot police has taken control of the town as live bullets and teargas rock the town. some protesters have been shot by police. Zaake’s father, Mr Emmanuel Ssembusi Butebi, said his son still alive but added that his condition is worrying.
“We are in touch with the doctors at Rubaga Hospital and they have not yet pronounced Zaake dead, what is true is that he is in critical condition and needs everyone’s prayers,” he said.
Currently, Mityana town is under a security lock-down, with movement in and out of the town being restricted. Shops and other businesses have closed down and motorists from Mubende and Kampala are now using village route as the town has become impassable.
