President Museveni launches Modern Tiles factory in Njeru, the biggest in Africa

By Website Writer; All set for the Presidential commissioning by H.E YK Museveni of Modern Tiles in Njeru, Buikwe District.

The 180-billion-shilling ($50 million) investment is part of Modern Group of Companies. It is reputed to be the largest tiles factory in Africa.

Modern Tiles factory, the biggest in Africa & located in Uganda, currently produces 49,000 square metres of tiles per day, with production planned to triple to 150,000 square metres per day at full capacity.

At full capacity, factory will produce 150,000 metres of tiles/day, employ 1,600 Ugandans directly, 3,000 indirectly.

All the raw materials for the factory are sourced locally – from the districts of Buikwe and Mukono in central Uganda, making it a vertically integrated tiles factory.

Significant parts of machinery of the sprawling factory, size of 15 football pitches, were fabricated locally, underpinning Uganda’s capacity to contribute to technological development.

Breaking ground for the factory was done in November 2020 – during the Covid pandemic – and hardly 18 months later, the factory started producing high quality tiles for the Ugandan & EAC markets.
