Uganda Prisons declines Kanyamunyu’s death

By Website Writer; The Uganda Prisons Service has dismissed reports that Matthew Kanyamunyu who was sentenced in November 2020 is dead.

Earlier this week, rumors about Kanyamunyu’s death made rounds on social media sparking a serious demand to government for details by his family.

However, the Uganda Prisons through its PRO Frank Mayanja Baine on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 declined the reports as he confirmed Kanyamunyu to be alive and kicking in Kitalya Mini Max Prison custody.

False Media stories regarding prisoner KTA/MIN-C/1603/20 Matthew Kanyamunyu

False media stories have been making rounds purporting the death of prisoner KTA/MIN-C1603/20 Matthew Kanyamunyu who is in custody at Kitalya Mini Max Prison.

The general public is informed that the above-mentioned person is alive and serving his sentence. These false stories should be ignored with outmost contempt.

Matthew Kanyamunyu, a logistics manager by profession was sentenced to 5years in jail for manslaughter case.

This was after he pleaded guilty of unintentionally killing a one Kenneth Akena, who was a child protection specialist with ACODEV in Kasese District.

The Late Akena was shot in the stomach at around 8pm on Saturday, November 13, 2016 and later succumbed to the bullet wounds at Novik hospital.

At the time of the regretful event, Kanyamunyu was together with his Burundian girlfriend, Ms. Cynthia Munwangari.

However, despite Kanyamunyu’s sentencing there have been contradictory accounts of the scene of crime.
