The Ministry’s guidance on fees compliance is that parents should not be asked to pay higher school fees than what they were paying before school closures.

The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni says she is aware of the immense cry from parents regarding schools hyping tuition fees.

Mrs. Museveni asserts that its an illegal move for schools to rise fees structures during this period.

I have heard the outcry about the issue of unregulated school fees by both public and private schools. The ministry is against arbitrary increment of school charges,” Mrs. Janet Museveni said. Parents should not be asked to pay higher school fees than what they were paying before school closures,” Mrs. Museveni said.

The Ministry of Education instructs that the S.2 learners who had paid full school fees when they reported back for the term which started on 31st May 2021, they shouldn’t be charged any more fees for the first term of 2022 when they report back to their former schools where they are going to S.3 class.

It also says the S.2 learners who had not completed paying the fees when the schools closed, on the 7th of June 2021, should complete paying only the balance of the school fees which they had not yet finished when they report back to their former schools for S.3 in January 2022.

Mrs. Museveni further directs Education institutions to engage their parents or guardians to adopt flexible fees payments and allow payment in appropriate installments.
