A man in Iganga district has committed suicide by hanging after allegedly becoming addicted to drugs among others, alcohol. He hanged himself inside his house using a rope and the body was discovered hanging behind his door.
The deceased was identified as Lule Musa alias Small bird [between 27-35 years], a resident of Nakavule Lubale zone, Central division, Iganga Municipality in Iganga district. He is a son to Awazi Kabogoza and Betty Kabogoza, all residents of the same area.
According to Chairperson LC 1 Nakavule Lubale, Ibanda Eriabu, the deceased committed suicide early on Wednesday but the body was discovered in the evening.
Ibanda says that he approached the deceased’s mother who said that there wasn’t any fracas before the suicide.
”I reached his mother to ask whether there was any misunderstanding but said that there was nothing like suicide compelling condition,” Ibanda said before calling upon locals to desist from such acts which he termed as barbaric.
Semwanga Yusuf, a brother to the deceased, says that his brother was a drug addict and his lifestyle was relating to a mad person.
”We opened the door and found Lule hanging dead behind the door, I suspect that the drugs he uses are the root cause of his suicide. His lifestyle had changed and he has been behaving like a mad person,” Semwanga said.
Basalirwa Dauda Salongo, a resident said that Lule was a simple man and news of his death shocked them as Youths of the same village.
”It is unfortunate to lose a fellow youth, we are also asking ourselves why did ‘small bird’ hang himself since we have been knowing him as a simple man,” Basalirwa Said.
The Youth Chairperson Nakavule Parish, Mubiru Hassan advised Youths to shun consumption of drugs citing that they raises stress and the outcomes are always regrettable.
”Youths should reduce consumption of drugs and excessive alcohol because they causes stress and control one’s decisions when consumed. If it wasn’t alcohol and weed then this barbaric act would not have happened,” Mubiru said.
Speaking to the press, the Municipal Councilor for Nakavule Ward, who doubles as the Minister for Works and physical planning in Iganga Municipality, Omalla Peter condemned the act of suicide and urged people to always seek counsel from elders and their close leaders in case of any stressing matter other than deciding to take their own lives.
”This was not a good decision taken by our resident, I urge you, people, to always seek guidance and counsel from your elders and close leaders like us other than taking your own lives,” Omalla said before calling upon Youths to avoid the influence of alcohol and other related drugs where he quoted that a bottle of alcohol was recovered in the pocket of the deceased’s trousers.
Police picked the body and took it to Iganga general hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
Meanwhile, By press time, security had not provided any comment about the incident.
