By Website Writer; Jubilant residents lifted Ugandan athlete Peruth Chemutai’s father shoulder high in Bukwo district yesterday after his daughter won Gold at the Tokyo Olympics.
Chemutai emerged as a winner of the women’s 3000m steeplechase final during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on August 4, 2021.
USA’s Courtney Frerichs won the silver medal and the bronze went to Kenya’s Hyvin Kiyeng.
Peruth Chemutai, a Uganda Police constable by profession became the first Ugandan female to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
