Mpigi Police has arrested a father in law, sheikh for marrying off underage daughter in Mpigi.
Sheikh Yunus Mugalu has been arrested for marrying off his daughter aged 16 years.
Police has arrested a father Mr Mugalu and son-in-law over forcing a young girl into marriage.
Yunus Mugalula a resident of Mbale village in Mpigi town Council, a father to one Yunus (16) was arrested together with his son-in-law Ashiraf Mugerwa over forcing a young girl into marriage.
Neighbours of Mr Mugalula informed police over a secret wedding organised at Mulalula’s residence in Mbale.
It is alleged that Mugalula promised his close friend Mr Mugerwa a wife to marry, thus forcing his young daughter to marry Mr Mugerwa.
Police invaded his home and canceled the wedding, arresting both Mugalula and his son-in-law Mr Mugerwa.
Gifts including soda, Rice, salt, cooking oil, sugar among others were confiscated by police as exhibits.
The two are held at Mpigi Central Police Station as investigations take course to the final conclusion.
