TV Journalist Knocked Dead by Speeding Motorist

A 23-year-old journalist in Kabale, Drake Turyahabwa alias Drayko has succumbed to injuries sustained from a road accident in the municipality.

 

According to Kabale-based sources, the nasty accident happened around 8:00 O’clock on Monday, July 5, 2021. The deceased, a resident of Kijuguta ward, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality, was a well-known photojournalist and a show host at an Online TV dubbed Bakiga Online TV.

Turyahabwa was described by colleagues as a hardworking, disciplined, and kind person. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesman says Turyahabwa was hit by a yet-to-be-identified vehicle. He also asked locals to help in the hunt for the driver by providing any relevant information.

“Police rushed him to Kabale referral hospital, where was pronounced dead on arrival,” Maate said.

The deceased has also been voluntarily working with the media department of the Kabale-based Kigezi Homeboys Football Club. His death comes follows a number of Western Uganda-based journalists who have breathed their last in a period of only just months.

The journalists include Enid Basiime of Ankole Diocese Revival Radio, Sheilah Nakabuye of NBS TV, Charles Muhindo Brinto of Light FM, Allan Madela Mateeka of Hunter FM,  Francis Mutazindwa, Robert Kagolo of Star FM, veteran Journalist for The Independent Kavuma Kaggwa and Kule Ronald of UBC Radio in Kasese.
