Health worker hit by RDC bodyguards

A health worker at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital is nursing wounds after he was on Sunday night clobbered by 3 men who were traveling in the Kabale RDC official vehicle.

The victim, Mohammed Byaruhanga says he was leaving the hospital in the evening hours heading home when he met the men traveling the Toyota double cabin number UG 3314 C. The men, he says, jumped off the pick up and started hitting him with sticks on the orders of a colleague who was in the passenger seat.

After being beaten, Byaruhanga says he went to Kabale Central Police station to report the incident, but the officers refused to register it and chased him away. The officers, he said, told him to “go and conclude that matter with the RDC.” When contacted, Kabale RDC Darius Nandinda denied knowledge of the incident.

“Those are hooligans; I don’t know anything about that. If a person is beaten, he reports to police and police   investigates. That’s a police matter let them go to police and report.” In recent days, many more health workers in Kabale and Rubanda district have accused security personnel of harassment during enforcement of the COVID-19 guidelines.
